Tignale
Tignale is made of 6 suburbs and none of them is called “Tignale”: Piovere, Oldesio, Prabione, Olzano, Aer and Gardola.
Tignale is a well known resort for both Italians and foreigners, being a sort of sheer cliff. According to the popular tradition, a villain called Zanzanù would scare the people living in the northern area of lake Garda, and the ex-voto for the villain is held in Sanctuary of Monte Castello of Tignale.
The Italian Touring Club bestowed a high honour on Tignale awarding it the “Orange Flag”, the high quality mark assigned to small places of the hinterland as a symbol of excellence for the offers and the welcoming.

Historical outline
The first inhabitants of the old “Viniale” were the Cenomani Gauls, followed by the Romans. At the time when Tiberius was the emperor, Tiganel already belonged to the municipium of Brescia. Among the dominations and the protectorates of dioceses and lords, it’s worth naming the Benedectines from Leno, the counts Lodrone and the Visconti family.
In 1426 Tignale was ruled by the Republic of Venice, obtaining some administrative autonomy. The beginning of the XVII century is well remembered for the terrible raids of the villain Giovanni Beatrice, called Zanzanù.
When Napoleon arrived and the Campoformio Treaty was signed in 1797, the Gandola turrent marked the border between the Austrian Empire and the Cisalpine Republic.
